Mindfulness Practice (Beginners)
5 week course, Commencing DATES TO BE ANNOUNCED
Class Duration: 1.5 hours due to practices building week on week.

Week 1: Puppy Mind
To help recognise the importance of the breath in training the faculty of attention
To gain insight into the untrained mind’s fickle nature similar to that of a puppy
To develop some simple tools for training our attention
Encouraging key attributes for attention training: kindness, patience and repetition
To understand that we can choose what we do with our attention
Week 2: Working with Worry
Understanding stress: where it comes from, why it’s necessary, how it works and potential harmful effects
Identify your individual stress signature
Gain insight into where in the body you feel stress
Learning to interact with stress differently
Week 3: Beditation
Recognising the importance of sleep
How poor sleep impacts or day-to-day functioning and wellbeing
Understanding the mind’s natural tendency to worry and how this impacts on sleep
Beditation meditation practice helps switch from ‘thinking mode’ to ‘sensing mode’
Week 4: Being with Others
Humans are social beings
How our brains are designed to help identify emotions and experiences of others as well as our own
Understanding that these signals can be difficult to read and how the combination of thoughts/feelings/actions/body sensations can increase the power of these signals
Learning to ‘Be and Breathe’ can allow the time and space needed to see more clearly and we can respond more wisely in such situations
Week 5: Treating Yourself as You Would a Good Friend
Recognising the inner critic – how we judge ourselves
Learning to treat yourself with kindness and compassion
Tools to help in moments of harsh self-judgement
Recognising patterns and working towards new ways of being
